Oven Fried Pork Chops
Oven Fried Pork Chops with Sweet & Sour Sauce is basically a breaded and oven fried pork chop topped with a homemade sweet & sour sauce. Of course if you prefer a straight fried pork chop, you can do that too as I often switch around how I prepare this and both turn out great. Of course oven fried is a bit healthier.
This is a spin off of a recipe my Dad used to make for our family when we were kids, then my sister and I continued to make as teenagers which was so good. It is a dish we still both make for our families even though each of us have made our own different modifications to it. I created a ketchup sweet and sour sauce that I think goes well with it but I’m sure it can be eaten alone or with another sauce if you choose.

How to Prepare Pork Chops and Sauce
*This post may contain affiliate links. Please Read my disclaimer here.
- Wash pork chops and pat dry. In a mixing bowl, season with black pepper and salt and rub over all pieces. Cover and let marinade for at least an hour.
- In a medium bowl, combine your eggs and milk and beat together.
- On a large plate or platter, combine your 2 breadcrumbs, season salt, garlic salt and Italian seasoning. Mix to combine well and spread out on the plate.
- Dip each pork chop into the egg, then into the breadcrumbs covering well on each side.
- *For oven frying, pre-heat oven to 425 degrees, foil a baking sheet, spray with pam and place chops 2″ apart, spray the top as well. Bake on each side for 10 minutes or until golden brown and cooked.
- *For frying method, heat a non-stick skillet on medium heat. Add oil, fry a couple at a time, not too close together for about 5 minutes on each side.
- Remove to a paper towel lined plate.
- Make the sauce by combining all ingredients in a small pot and simmer a few minutes.
- Best served immediately. Goes well with mashed potatoes and corn or peas.
The fried version will look like the one pictured below and may be a bit crispier. But I believe the oven baked tastes just as good.
Oven Fried Pork Chops with Sweet & Sour Sauce

- 1/2 tsp. Italian Seasoning
- 3/4 cup Panko Breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup Regular Breadcrumbs
- 2 Eggs beaten
- 2 Tbsp. Milk
- 3 Tbsp. Oil
Sweet & Sour Sauce
- 1/2 cup Ketchup
- 2 tsp. Sugar
- 1 tsp. Vinegar
- 2 slices Pineapple cut up
- 1/4 cup Pineapple Juice
- 1/2 small Onion sliced horizontally or in chunks
- 1/4 small Bell pepper cut in chunks
Instructions
-
Wash pork chops & pat dry. Season with black pepper and salt and rub on all pieces in a medium mixing bowl, set aside.
-
On a large plate, combine both breadcrumbs, the garlic salt, seasoned salt, and italian seasoning, set aside.
-
In a medium bowl, combine beaten eggs and milk, stir together.
-
In the meantime, start preparing pork chops by dipping one at a time and immersing both sides in eggwash, shake off excess, then dip and completely cover both sides in breadcrumb mixture. Prepare a couple at a time.
-
* For oven fried- pre-heat oven to 425 degrees. Line a sheet pan with foil, spray with Pam spray. Place pork chops 2" apart from each other. Spray tops as well or drizzle with a little oil. Bake on each side for 10 minutes or until golden brown and cooked.
-
* For frying - Heat a large skillet on medium heat. Add oil, wait 2-3 minutes or until hot.
-
Place in hot oil, a couple pieces at a time, spaced out in skillet. Fry about 5 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove to a papertowel lined plate. Repeat until all pieces cooked. Add more oil if needed.
-
To make sauce, add all sauce ingredients to a small pot and bring to a boil, turn to medium-low heat and simmer 5-10 minutes.
-
When ready to serve, drizzle sauce on pork chops or may serve on the side to dip pork chop pieces in.
Recipe Notes
* Serve with mashed potatoes, white rice, or side of choice, along with butter corn as my suggestion.
* To make butter corn, combine 1 - 15 oz. can of drained corn with 1-2 Tbsp. butter and 1/4 tsp. salt. Heat in a small pot on medium heat, simmer a few minutes.
* Optional- you can also use just plain canned corn.
