Jamaican Carrot Juice

Jamaican Carrot Juice

Jamaican Carrot Juice

Jamaican traditional carrot juice has been around for years. It happens to be one of my favorite Jamaican homemade drinks from my younger days. And I am sure many people share the same sentiments. Traditional Jamaican Carrot Juice from back in the days was always pretty much made with blending out your carrots with a little water and sweetening it with condensed milk and nutmeg. However recently some people leave out the condensed milk and sweeten with sugar also adding ginger and lime.

Ingredients for Traditional Carrot Juice

  • Carrots
  • Water
  • Condensed milk
  • Grated Nutmeg
  • Vanilla

Traditional Jamaican carrot juice is usually made with the above ingredients. However, there is another dairy free and refreshing option as well where you would use lime, ginger and a little sugar ( to taste) . I actually don’t mind this version either as it is very refreshing and lighter.

Process in Preparation of Jamaican Carrot Juice

  1. First, you will peel and cut up carrots in medium size pieces (that are easier to blend).
  2. Place some of the carrots and water in blender filling about half way and blend to liquify.
  3. Continue blending until you are finished.
  4. In a large bowl with a strainer on top, pour each batch in as you are finished and squeeze out the excess water out of the carrot trash. Empty trash left in strainer after each batch.
  5. Pour 1 can of condensed milk, 1 Tbsp. of Vanilla, and nutmeg in bowl and stir.
  6. Place in a jug in the fridge to cool. Serve over ice. May adjust sweetener to taste.

I just spent a happy half hour clicking through your blog. I am Chinese-Jamaican too and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts. I left Jamaica fifty years ago & although I cook some of these dishes regularly (Hamchoy & Pork) , others I just remember eating (Hominy corn porridge & carrot juice) but have never tried making. Now I can try!

Thanks for compiling all the recipes here. You’ll keep these homestyle dishes alive and well for all the future generations!
