Homemade Jamaican Jerk Seasoning
Jamaican Jerk seasoning or sauce is a traditional and unique spicy sauce that is popularly used by Jamaicans to season all meats possible. It is made with a combination of natural seasonings such as scallions, garlic, thyme, and of course scotch bonnet peppers along with salts, other spices, sugar, vinegar and oil to make a sauce or paste to rub onto different meats to marinade before cooking.
The most popular meats made with Jerk are chicken and pork. Most visitors to Jamaica usually visit one of our popular Jerk spots across the island to satisfy their palate for spicy food.
In my post I have created an authentic homemade version of this popular combination of seasonings that makes up Jamaican Jerk Seasoning. I think it is even better made fresh than the bottled ones bought in the stores. You can also use as little or as much depending on how spicy you like your food to suit your palate.
Ingredients for Homemade Jamaican Jerk Seasoning
- Scotch Bonnet Pepper
- Scallion
- Fresh Thyme Leaves
- Garlic
- Dark or Mushroom Soy Sauce
- Salt
- Seasoned Salt
- Black Pepper
- Brown Sugar
- Ground Allspice
- Nutmeg – ground or grated
- Cinnamon – ground
- Oil
- Vinegar
This is very simple to make. The list may look long but everything is just combined and blended to a puree form within a few minutes.
Easy Preparation of Homemade Jamaican Jerk Seasoning

- Collect and measure out all your ingredients.
- Place everything at once in a blender or food processor and pulse a few seconds until soft, then use either puree or liquify setting for a few minutes until reaches desired consistency.
- Pour in a glass jar store in the fridge.

Homemade Jamaican Jerk Seasoning
Ingredients
- 6 Stalks Scallion
- 6-7 Scotch Bonnet Pepper
- 2 Tbsp. Fresh Thyme leaves
- 6 Cloves garlic
- 2 tsp. Dark or Mushroom Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp. Salt
- 1 tsp. Season Salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. Black Pepper
- 1 Tbsp. Brown Sugar
- 1 Tbsp. Allspice ground
- 1 tsp. Nutmeg ground
- 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon ground
- 2 Tbsp. Oil
- 2 Tbsp. Vinegar
Instructions

Combine all above ingredients in a blender or food processor and purée.

Store in a glass jar in the fridge.

Use to season any meat of choice.

If using as a main seasoning, still lightly salt meat along with the Jerk Seasoning.
